We won’t, and we’d push you not to let anyone else either. An overlay hides the deck, traps heat that ages the new shingles faster, adds weight, and voids or shortens most material warranties. It saves money on day one and costs it back with interest.
Architectural asphalt typically runs 22 to 28 years in Pittsburgh’s climate with proper ventilation, less if the attic cooks it, which is why ventilation is part of every quote and not an upsell. Metal and slate run far longer and cost accordingly.
